Why Polaris exists

People communicate every day, but many never receive direct education in how to listen, speak with care, work through disagreement, or keep relationships healthy.

Polaris Guiding Foundation was established to help address that need through education, guidance, and community-centered program development.

The name Polaris refers to the North Star, a steady point of orientation. In the same spirit, Polaris seeks to help people develop communication skills and relational principles that can guide them through school, work, family life, and community participation.

Mission

Polaris Guiding Foundation exists to strengthen individuals, families, and communities through communication education and relational guidance.

Vision

Polaris envisions communities where people thrive through strong communication, healthy relationships, and shared understanding.

Guiding Principles

Polaris is guided by a belief that strong communication can change the direction of a life, a family, and a community.

Catherine Meck, MA Mass Comm

Founder and Executive Director

"Communication has the power to change lives. When students learn to communicate with confidence, families learn to communicate with understanding, and communities learn to communicate with purpose, relationships become stronger and opportunities grow. That belief is the heart of Polaris Guiding Foundation."

For more than fifteen years, Catherine Meck has dedicated her career to creating educational opportunities that strengthen students, families, and communities across the Texas Panhandle. With a Master's degree in Communication from West Texas A&M University and a career in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, community engagement, and communications, she has devoted her work to helping people connect, learn, and thrive.

Throughout her career, Catherine has served in leadership roles with organizations including Window On a Wider World, the American Quarter Horse Foundation, West Texas A&M University, and the Panhandle Producers & Royalty Owners Association. Her work has taken her into classrooms, boardrooms, rural communities, and schools across the Panhandle, where she has developed educational programs, built community partnerships, secured philanthropic support, and created opportunities that positively impact children and families.

After years of working alongside educators, nonprofit leaders, and community partners, Catherine recognized a growing need for communication education—teaching young people and families the practical interpersonal skills that strengthen relationships, build confidence, and prepare them for success in school, work, and life. That vision became Polaris Guiding Foundation.

Today, Catherine leads Polaris with a commitment to bringing innovative communication education directly into schools and communities throughout the Texas Panhandle. Through student leadership initiatives, family engagement, and collaborative partnerships, she believes lasting community change begins with meaningful conversation and strong relationships.

A proud resident of the Texas Panhandle for more than twenty-six years, Catherine is passionate about serving both rural and urban communities. She believes every student deserves the opportunity to develop the communication and leadership skills that will help them make a positive impact in their families, workplaces, and communities.

Together with her husband, Terry, Catherine is building Polaris Guiding Foundation to equip the next generation with the skills to communicate, connect, and lead.

Terry Meck, MA Counseling

Relationship communication and family engagement

Some people spend their careers protecting others.

Others spend their lives helping people heal.

Terry Meck has been called to do both.

After serving more than twenty years with the Amarillo Police Department, Terry retired from law enforcement with the same heart that led him there in the first place—a desire to serve people during life's most challenging moments. Rather than slowing down, he chose to begin a new chapter, earning his Master's degree in Counseling and continuing his lifelong commitment to helping others.

Terry believes that healthy relationships rarely fail because people stop caring. More often, they struggle because people stop understanding one another. His passion is helping couples and families rediscover communication that builds trust, strengthens relationships, and creates lasting connection.

At Polaris Guiding Foundation, Terry leads relationship communication programs, marriage workshops, and family engagement opportunities designed to give people practical tools they can use every day—not simply theories, but conversations that strengthen homes and communities.

Known for his quiet humility, steady presence, and genuine compassion, Terry brings decades of real-life experience to every conversation. Whether speaking with a couple, mentoring a family, or encouraging a student, his goal is simple: to help people communicate with greater understanding, grace, and purpose.
